Bootstrap Island, the stunning castaway adventure that was released via Steam Early Access in February is preparing its next major update. Adding exciting new content and features for all of you budding survivors, the update is scheduled to land on our shores this fall.

Known for its rich visuals and interactive survival mechanics, Bootstrap Island is set to challenge players even more with the addition of its first boss encounter. Inside the new Dark Lair, players will discover the fearsome Jungle Overlord who they’ll have to defeat before progressing further. Doing so will allow players to stomp deeper into the jungle like never before with new vital footwear. Equipping these increases walking and running speed, helpful for getting into (and out of) trouble.

Furthermore, the fall update offers a wealth of gameplay and Quality of Life improvements. New edible critters will become available to aid survivability and enrich the experience, whilst the very real-world problem of spoiling food challenges players to maintain their cooking skills.

“We are happy to offer a first real challenge for the talented survivors who have already mastered the basics of "Bootstrap Island". The first boss monster in the game will be a massive beast, but he is also agile and cunning,” says Rein Zobel, Creative Director, Maru VR. Defeating him will require skill and planning, as ill-equipped players will only find death in his dark lair.”

KEY FEATURES

  • Boss Monster - A fearsome primate is blocking the way to deeper inland

  • Deep Jungle - A new area where the boss is ruling, ravaged by earthquakes

  • New and revamped Critters - More ways to interact with small critters and new small edible animals

  • QOL Improvements:

o Spoiling - Food will spoil over time unless it is cooked

o Boots - Equip boots to increase walking and running speed

o Save - A save icon will now appear

This will be the second major update for Bootstrap Island since its Steam Early Access launch. In June, developer Maru VR Productions released the Building and Inventory update. This allowed players to construct shelters and customise them, protecting them from nighttime dangers. Additionally, a new inventory management system added a handy satchel to help in the collection of vital resources.

Maru VR Productions will be holding demos of Bootstrap Island during Gamescom in Cologne, Germany in August.
