KRAFTON India announced that Ocean Odyssey, the underwater theme mode set beneath Erangel, is returning to BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) as part of the 4.6 update. The mode arrives on September 30, 2026, two weeks after the update itself goes live, and will be playable on Erangel until November 16, 2026.
A Comeback Built on Player Memory
Ocean Odyssey’s return follows a pattern KRAFTON India has repeated through the year - bringing back experiences that players continued to ask for long after they were retired, as it did with Erangel: Ancient Secrets. Rather than replacing the theme with something new, the brand has chosen to reopen a world its long-standing community has kept talking about. It is marked one of the game's boldest departures from land-based battle royale gameplay.
What Players Remember
Ocean Odyssey originally introduced players to the Ocean Palace, a submerged ancient kingdom hidden beneath the waves and protected by a Sea Suppressor barrier that let players explore underwater in an air pocket of safety - until it broke, flooding the palace and forcing a race to escape. At the center sat the Trident, a legendary weapon capable of creating water sprouts to fling opponents across the battlefield, guarded by the fearsome Kraken.
Beyond the palace, players explored the treasure-filled Forsaken Ruins in search of loot most other modes never offered. For players who joined BGMI after the mode was retired, this will be a first encounter with the Ocean Palace. For those who were there the first time, it is a return to one of the game’s boldest departures from land-based battle royale.
