JioGames, Reliance Jio’s subsidiary for gaming has appointed Sidharth Kedia as its senior vice president. Before being roped in as JioGames head, Kedia was the Chief Executive Officer of NODWIN Gaming. Last October, he resigned from Nazara-backed NODWIN Gaming and joined as JioGames head in June.
Kedia has already been associated with Reliance Group during 2015-19 for its media verticals Network18 and Viacom18 playing different roles. While expressing his joy on the rejoining, he posted on the professional social media platform LinkedIn, “In 2015, I had joined RIL's media business. Jio was in it's final stages of development. In December of 2015, I was called upon by the chairman's office to run the PMO for Jio 'friends and family' launch. Now that I look back, I swell with pride to have been part of such a momentous initiative.”
“Over the last decade, D2C businesses focused on lifestyle, social and entertainment have been the biggest beneficiaries of internet democratizarion by Jio. Infact they exist today because Jio changed the way India accessed data,” he continued.
“A decade later, I feel pretty stoked to be called back in the RIL family and be entrusted with the opportunity to scale Jiogames and build a gaming behemoth that India awaits,” he concluded.
Notably, he moved to NODWIN Gaming after his initial instinct at Reliance. In 2018, listed gaming major Nazara obtained a majority stake in NODWIN Gaming. During his tenure, NODWIN Gaming evolved into one of the paramount gaming companies in India, diversifying into multiple genres apart from tournaments.
With the appointment of Kedia, JioGames is believed to push its strategy in the esports industry. Mukesh Ambani’s gaming division is expected to target game developers and gamers to rein the market.
